Since 1996, it has helped newcomers overcome challenges like language barriers and isolation, offering a vital bridge to settlement and community integration. Believing housing is a path to dignity and wellness, MHHC’s Respite Rental Program serves both caregivers in need of rest and newcomers starting fresh.

A Safe Start for a New Chapter in Canada
The MHHC Foundation is proud to offer transitional housing for newcomers navigating their first steps in Canada. This program provides short-term accommodation and essential support services to help individuals and families establish stability as they begin their settlement journey.
Who We Serve
This program is designed for individuals and families who have recently arrived in Canada and require temporary housing while securing permanent accommodation and accessing local resources.
Guest Categories
We welcome a range of guests with diverse transitional needs:
New Arrival – Recently immigrated individuals or families awaiting permanent housing or beginning settlement
Emergency Stay – Guests requiring urgent accommodation due to crisis or disruption
Inter-Provincial Visitor – Visitors from other provinces attending family matters or official appointments (e.g., embassies or consulates)
Same Province, Different Island – Guests traveling within British Columbia between islands (e.g., Vancouver Island to mainland)
Overflow Guest – Temporary visitors staying due to limited space in host households
What's Included
Transitional stays from 1 to 6 months
Settlement support, including orientation and local navigation assistance
Language and employment guidance to promote independence and integration
Community connection opportunities to foster belonging and social engagement
Rental Rates
We offer affordable rental rates to ensure accessibility. Please note that this program currently operates without direct financial support from government or nonprofit partners.

Please note that room availability is limited. All applications are carefully screened, and placements are offered on a first-come, first-served basis, subject to eligibility and current capacity.
Volunteer-Run Program
This initiative is operated entirely by volunteers, reflecting our commitment to community-led care. All rental contributions go directly toward maintaining the building and supporting the mission and charitable programs of the MHHC Foundation — helping us expand services, reach more people, and build a more inclusive future.

Caregiver Weekend Respite for Women

Caring for others is a noble calling—but even the most compassionate hearts need time to rest. Our Caregiver Weekend Respite for Women offers short-term, restorative stays designed to help caregivers step away from their demanding roles and return refreshed.
Purpose & Goals
We provide a peaceful, supportive space where caregivers can recharge physically, emotionally, and mentally. Our aim is to prevent burnout, promote well-being, and offer a dignified, restorative retreat for those who give so much to others.

This program supports family caregivers, healthcare aides, support workers, and students seeking rest and balance. Whether you're actively caring or training for a care role, our space is here for your journey.

Weekend retreats in peaceful, shared accommodations designed for privacy and comfort
