Friendly Visitor Volunteer Training Program
|
Are you passionate about making a positive impact in the lives of seniors?
The Multicultural Helping House Society (MHHS) and the Jewish Seniors Alliance (JSA) have collaborated to establish the ‘Friendly Visitor’ Program. As a volunteer, you’ll play a vital role in combating loneliness and social isolation among older adults.
And as for the question “why bother…why me?”—consider these reasons:
- Impact: You can make a difference in someone’s life.
- Influence: Be a positive role model and support system.
- Encouragement: Inspire others to volunteer.
- Family and Friends: Set an example for your loved ones.
About this Program:
- We provide FREE training to volunteers who will visit seniors and shut-ins who express feelings of loneliness.
- We aim to reduce isolation and promote community connection.
- Visits can occur either in seniors’ homes or within the broader community.
Volunteer Responsibilities:
- Engage in meaningful conversations with seniors.
- Provide companionship and social support.
- Accompany seniors to medical appointments and social/cultural events.
- Ensure clients’ well-being, including hygiene and food supply.
Requirements:
- Pass a Criminal Records Check.
- Receive 18 hours of online and in-person training.
Training Schedule MHHS and the Jewish Seniors Alliance (JSA) have successfully finished the training for the second group of the ‘Friendly Visitor Training Program’. Stay tuned for the schedule of the third batch, which will begin in January 2025. |
